Galaxies

1.milky way

The Milky Way is the galaxy that contains our Solar System. The descriptor “milky” is derived from the galaxy’s appearance from Earth: a band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye.
Stars: 250 billion ± 150 billion
Did you know: The Milky Way is one of about fifty galaxies called “The Local Group”.

1.Andromeda

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as Messier 31, M31, or NGC 224, is a spiral galaxy approximately 780 kiloparsecs from Earth, and the nearest major galaxy to the Milky Way. Its name stems from the area of the sky in which it appears, the constellation of Andromeda.

Distance to Earth: 2.537 million light years

Radius: 110,000 light years

Did you know:
The best modern estimate of Andromeda’s distance is 2.54 million light years.

3.Triangulum Galaxy

The Triangulum Galaxy is a spiral galaxy approximately 3 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. It is catalogued as Messier 33 or NGC 598. The Triangulum Galaxy is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, behind the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy.

Distance to Earth: 2.723 million light years

Radius: 30,000 light years

Stars:40 billion

4.Whirlpool Galaxy

The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as Messier 51a, M51a, and NGC 5194, is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy with a Seyfert 2 active galactic nucleus. It lies in the constellation Canes Venatici, and was the first galaxy to be classified as a spiral galaxy.
Distance to Earth: 23.16 million light years
Age: 400.3 million years
Radius: 42,999.95663 light years
Stars: 100 billion

5.pinwheel galaxy

The Pinwheel Galaxy is a face-on spiral galaxy distanced 21 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. First discovered by Pierre Méchain on March 27, 1781, it was communicated to Charles Messier who verified its position for inclusion in the Messier Catalogue as one of its final entries.
Distance to Earth: 20.87 million light years
Radius: 85,000 light years
Apparent mass: ~1,000 billion M☉
Stars: 1 trillion
Apparent size (V): 28′.8 × 26′.9
Did you know: The Pinwheel Galaxy’s spiral arms has more than 3,000 starbirth regions, and has the most of any similar type galaxy so far observed.

6.messeir81

Messier 81 is a spiral galaxy about 12 million light-years away, with at diameter of 90,000 light years, about half the size of the Milky Way, in the constellation Ursa Major. Due to its proximity to Earth, large size, and active galactic nucleus, Messier 81 has been studied extensively by professional astronomers. Wikipedia
Distance to Earth: 11.74 million light years
Radius: 44,999.99987 light years
Stars: 250 billion
Redshift: −0.000113 ± 0.000013
Discoverer: Johann Elert Bode
Did you know: A black hole of 70 million solar masses resides at the center of M81 and is about 15 times the mass of the Milky Way’s central black hole.

7. Virgo stellar stream

The Virgo Stellar Stream also known as Virgo Overdensity, is the proposed name for a stellar stream in the constellation of Virgo which was discovered in 2005. The stream is thought to be the remains of a dwarf spheroidal galaxy that is in the process of merging with the Milky Way.
Distance to Earth: 30,000 light years
Apparent size (V): 30° × 10°

8.Ic 1101

IC 1101 is a supergiant elliptical galaxy at the center of the Abell 2029 galaxy cluster, approximately 320 megaparsecs from Earth.
Radius: 1.956938266 million light years
Stars: 100 trillion
Did you know: IC 1101 is among the largest known galaxies, but there is debate in the astronomical literature about how to define the size of such a galaxy.
